Orienteering is an excellent activity to develop fitness and navigation skills. Learn to navigate a course to find controls and return in the fastest time. This is a great activity for schools and compliments curricular areas such as numeracy, literacy, geography and PE. Orienteering is delivered at our centre grounds and in local forests but we can also run sessions at any suitable park or forest area.
Orienteering is suitable for school, youth and adult groups and for all abilities. Participation can be individual, in pairs or in small teams to develop teamwork.
Schools Events: Our annual schools Orienteering event for 1st and 2nd year Post Primary students takes place in Curraghchase Forest Park. If your school would like to participate please email us at kilfinaneoetc@lcetb.ie
Junior Cycle – Orienteering Short Course
Kilfinane OETC work closely with schools in the delivery of the Junior Cycle Orienteering Short course. KOETC have developed a facilitation service for the Orienteering CBA in conjunction with the Limerick and Clare Education & Training Board PE Community of Practice and the JCT support service.
We can look after all aspects of running the CBA event therefore leaving teachers free to observe and mark. Templates for student observation and student reflection can be provided.
The CBA takes about 2 hours for a class of 30 students and is provided at a reduced fee of €10 per student.
If you are new to Orienteering and need assistance to develop this short course please get in touch. We can provide an instructor to co-deliver the module in your school to get you up and running.
